I happen to come from a long line of Irishmen (and Scottish, British, and otherwise German). In fact, my most recently immigrated ancestor came from Ireland in the 19th century. My very fair skin, light eyes, and reddish hair (and I may even be a little fiesty) are testament to my roots--from both sides of the family. Apparently I didn't pick up the beer loving gene though. I visited Northern Ireland in April 2009, and it is no wonder I loved It so much since a large part of my family immigrated from Londonderry. I am excited to be visiting again with Mum in May. Thanks to my mom's hard work researching our family tree, we are now loaded with knowledge of where our ancestors lived and died, so the drive through the (Northern) Irish countryside will be even more awe-inspiring this go around.
In medical school, our ethics professor hailed from Ireland. He happened to interview me when I was applying, and I have always adored him. Every time he gave a lecture, or even ceremonial benedictions, he always included an Irish blessing. I will leave you with the same today.
May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!
Happy St. Patty's Day!

ReplyDeleteThanks Debby! I appreciate you stopping by AND for following me! I head to Ireland in less than a month, I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteThis is a few months late... but I am half Irish and went to Ireland with my sister a few years ago. Southern Ireland was unimpressive but the North was breathtaking. Love the picture!
