We shall see if this is really true or not, because if it does prove true, there is an entire tree at Blair Castle tracing us back to at least the mid-1000s. Intriguing!

  1. Where did you get your information on the Murrays? I'm also doing a bit of family research. Your blog post came up for a search for William Murray. You have some great information. Just wondering about the sources.

  2. I'd have to ask my Mom. Our tree is on ancestry.com with most of her sources and what not.

  3. I'm wondering about this, too. It does seem to be the common version, only the dominant version never mentions Ayrshire. Just born in Perthshire, or else grandson to someone who was, maybe the one who earlier came to Maryland and Virginia.

The Ayrshire origin makes sense. But I want to know its source. Also, what was this man's occupation? Was he by any chance a weaver?

It specifically makes sense becuase another line in the same Y DNA cluster is also from Ayrshire, and the next county to the north. These are distant matches to my brother, whose line is Scotch Irish. They share a marker that is pretty much unique in non-Norse haplogroup I1, as well as a haplotype cluster.
